Flood Alert issued

A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood Alert in force: River Rother and its tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal.

Flooding is possible for: River Rother and its tributaries from Turks Bridge to the Royal Military Canal, including Crowhurst Bridge, Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Salehurst and Bodiam.

Be prepared.

River levels are rising as a result of heavy rainfall this morning.  Flooding is expected from 1pm this afternoon, Monday 9 August. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads close to the river, particularly in the Crowhurst Bridge, Shrub Lane and Etchingham areas.

The heavy rainfall is expected to ease by this lunchtime, but further heavy isolated showers are possible throughout the rest of the day today. We expect river levels to remain high until Tuesday morning 10 August. We are closely monitoring the situation and are out on the ground checking and clearing any blockages and debris from the rivers. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses in the area. This message will be updated by 9pm this evening, Monday 9 August, or as the situation changes.
